Cashion home opener offers pair of wins over OBA
Oklahoma Bible Academy played Cashion at the wrong time.
The Wildcats had their home opener last Tuesday and blasted the visiting Trojans 65-37.
The game was even more lopsided than the score as Cashion entered the fourth quarter with a 62-16 advantage.
The Wildcats were coming off three straight narrow losses at the Tournament of Champions over the holiday break.
They, essentially, made OBA pay for their frustrations.
Cashion forced 28 turnovers and limited the Trojans to 30 percent shooting for the game.
The Wildcats countered with nearly 50 percent shooting.
Four Cashion players scored in double figures, led by Nick Nabavi’s 15 points.
The senior didn’t miss a shot from the field, including a 4 for 4 showing from 3-point range.
Landon LaGasse added 13 points, and team-highs of six rebounds and three blocks.
Cashion out-rebounded OBA 31-23.
Austin Frazier and Vance Raney scored 11 points apiece.
Cashion entered the weekend’s Three Rivers Conference Tournament with a 2-3 record. The Wildcats were the tournament’s No. 1 seed.
Shafer bucket leads to OT, eventual win for CHS
It took a little bit of extra time, but the Cashion girls were also able to snap a three-game losing skid.
The Lady Wildcats defeated visiting OBA 57-51 in overtime on Tuesday night.
Trailing late, Cashion’s Ella Suntken fed freshman Megan Shafer, who scored to help send the game into overtime.
Once there, Cashion outscored OBA 13-7.
It was the home opener for the Lady Wildcats and senior Lauren Lamb liked her surroundings.
She scored a game-high 24 points as the teams battled back and forth throughout regulation.
Her team was down 19- 15 at halftime, but used a 13-7 spurt in the third to reclaim the lead.
OBA charged ahead in the fourth quarter before Suntken and Shafer connected.
Suntken was making her return to the team after tearing her meniscus in the offseason.
Shafer scored 12 points overall for Cashion while Brook Shelly added 11.
OBA got 19 points from Conley Cayot and 10 from Cooper Cayot.
Cashion was 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference after the win.
