Dover leads early and late, but Lomega prevails 54-50
Lomega did get a win in its season opener.
But Dover made the Raiders earn every bit of it.
Lomega erased an 11-point halftime deficit and still trailed in the final two minutes before squeaking out a 54-50 homecoming victory.
Damion Turner’s acrobatic up-and-under with his left hand with 2:48 to play gave Dover a 50-48 lead.
However, Dover didn’t score again and Turner fouled out just over a minute later.
Lance Yost tied the game off an inbounds play with 1:18 left.
Homecoming king Owen Duffy and Brooks Uhlenhake combined to go 2 of 4 from the foul line over the next minute and then Kelby Ott iced the game with two foul shots with 11.2 seconds to play.
Dover missed a front end of a one-and-one and turned it over in the final 34 seconds to hurt its own chances.
The Longhorns did a lot to help themselves in the second quarter.
Already up on the cold-shooting Raiders after a quarter, Dover outscored its hosts 22-15 in the second.
Dover made a trio of 3-pointers, including one by Turner with 20 seconds left in the half.
That was part of a 7-0 run by Dover - Kolten Shaw scored the other four - as the Longhorns took a 31-20 lead at the break.
The Longhorns’ lead was six points with 4:40 left in the third before Lomega went on a 6-0 run. Ott’s 3-pointer at 3:15 tied the game, 34-34.
Ben Marsh’s putback gave the Raiders a 36-35 lead that they took into the fourth.
The teams went backand- forth over much of the final frame until Lomega closed it out with the 6-0 run.
Turner scored 11 before fouling out. Lozano also scored 11 while Shaw added eight.
Ott, who made four 3-pointers, led the Raiders with 19.
Yost scored 12 and Uhlenhake 10.
