Declan Matthews scored two touchdowns and the defense pitched a shutout Thursday as the Kingfisher seventh grade football team beat Clinton 14-0 at home.

Matthews scored on a 1-yard run in the first half just after the Jackets blocked a punt. The blocked kick was recovered at the Clinton 1 by Braxton Padilla.

Matthews scored again in the third quarter on a 24-yard run, then caught a two-point pass from Cal Farrar.

The Jackets (1-0) return to the field next Thursday when they host El Reno.

Eighth grade

The Kingfisher eighth grade football team opened its season with a 21-0 home win over Clinton on Thursday.

Steel Snodgrass scored three touchdowns and helped the defense pitch a shutout.

Snodgrass put the Jackets on the board with an 18-yard TD run on a 4thand- 3 play at 1:21 of the first quarter. His two-point pass to Austin Gustafson made it 8-0.

The defense did its part in the second quarter.

Bowen Pearson’s QB pressure helped set up a Hunter Waeger interception.

One play later, Snodgrass scored on a 51-yard touchdown run. Jensen Stewart booted an extra-point to make it 15-0.

Snodgrass capped the scoring early in the third quarter with a TD scamper of 75 yards.

The eighth graders host El Reno next Thursday.
