Lunsford, Taylor lead KJH to 5th at all-star XC meet
A handful of runners from Kingfisher County brought home top-10 finishes Thursday from the 2022 Oklahoma Junior High All-Star Cross Country Championships.
Held at the Chickasha Sports Complex, the event is the equivalent of the state meet for junior high runners.
Among the top finishers were two from Kingfisher.
Lily Lunsford ran eighth and Kinley Taylor 10th in the Class 4A girls race.
Both eighth graders, Lunsford finished the 2,400 meter course in 9:22.46.
Taylor ran it in 9:37.73. They led the Kingfisher team to a fifth-place finish.
The Lady Jackets scored 152 points.
Bethany won the meet with 78. Cleveland was the runner-up with 85.
Pauls Valley took third with 108 and Plainview fourth with 121.
There were 14 full teams and 132 individuals in the 4A girls race.
Hinsley Brodrick was Kingfisher’s next finisher.
She was 36th overall and 34th among the runners who scored points for their teams. She finished in 10:23.21.
In Class 2A girls, Claire Myers of Lomega also claimed a medal.
The eighth grader was eighth out of 171 runners as she crossed the finish line in 9:39.12.
In Class 3A boys, Hennessey’s Gabriel Roman was also eighth.
The boys ran a two-mile course and he finished in 12:19.01. There were 119 individuals in that race.
Hennessey was ninth in the 3A girls team race.
The Lady Eagles were paced by JoHanna Matousek, who was20th(14th) in 10:22.03.
