Okarche just misses spot at state

By

Okarche’s bid for the state baseball tournament fell one win short.

The Warriors were defeated in back-to-back games by fourth-ranked Dewar on Sunday to see their season end in the regional championship.

The Dragons beat Okarche 9-6 and 9-3 to come through the loser’s bracket and win the regional title. Okarche was in the driver’s seat after knocking off Dewar 11-1 on Saturday at Seminole State.

The Dragons bounced back that night to eliminate Drummond 18-0 to set up the rematch with Okarche the next day.

That’s when the regional returned to the Dragons’ home field.

Okarche, ranked 13th, opened the rain-plagued regional with a 12-2 victory over Drummond. That game had to be played on two different days as weather delayed - and moved - the regional.

The Warriors’ season ended with a 21-8 record.

They opened play Thursday with a 15-2 loss to No. 5 Moss, which eventually won the regional championship.

Lomega was 15-17 this season.

The Eagles and Wolves went the full three games in their Class 3A bi-district series.

Davis opened a double- header Friday with a 5-4 win. Hennessey returned the favor in the nightcap by also winning 5-4, setting up Saturday’s decisive game.

The Eagles’ season ended with a 16-13 record.
