Raiders fall to Sentinel at Warrior Classic
Lomega’s bid to repeat as Warrior Classic champion fell short in the finals.
A massive second quarter by Sentinel helped the Bulldogs earn a 71-54 victory in Saturday’s championship game.
The Bulldogs turned a seven-point deficit into a double-digit lead by scoring 29 points in the second quarter.
Lomega struggled defensively to contain the threepronged attack of Brady Wooten, Jake Peeler and Jett Cunningham.
The trio scored 24 points in the quarter and 57 for the game.
It was Lomega that got off to the hot start as Blake Snowden and Brooks Uhlenhake made four of the Raiders’ five 3-pointers in a 17-point first quarter.
However, they couldn’t keep up with Sentinel in the second quarter.
Snowden added two more treys later in the game and scored a team-high 18 points.
Uhlenhake added 10 and Kade Shaloy eight.
Peeler led all scorers with 25 points, including seven in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs, ranked 14th in Class B, maintained their lead.
Snowden and Owen Duffy were named to the all-tournament team.
They combined for 32 points in Friday’s 72-48 victory over Shattuck in the semifinals.
This time it was Lomega that mounted the big comeback.
The Raiders found themselves trailing 20-5 after a quarter, but notched 29 second-quarter points to lead by seven by the break.
Snowden, Kelby Ott and freshman Ben Marsh hit two 3-pointers apiece in the dominant quarter.
In all, four Raiders reached double figures.
Duffy and Marsh scored 17 apiece.
Snowden scored 15 while Jonah Pendergraft notched all 13 of his points in the fourth quarter.
Ott finished his night with eight points.
The Saturday loss snapped a five-game win streak for Lomega, which is now 10-5 on the season.
JV Girls Get Dramatic 7th Place Win
Although Lomega’s varsity girls weren’t in the tournament, the Lady Raiders still came out with a win.
Lomega’s JV knocked off Corn Bible Academy 66-61 in overtime in Saturday’s seventh-place game.
Madi Myers knocked down a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.
Lomega controlled the contest in the extra frame.
Monse Rivera led the team with 25 points while Allie Roberts scored 21.
The Lady Raiders opened up with a narrow 57-47 loss to second-seeded Shattuck in the opener. They also lost 52-31 to Binger-Oney on Friday.
