WALKING OUT THE WIGGLES — This group of Kingfisher elementary students participated in the first of three Walking Wednesdays, sponsored each fall by Kingfisher Community Collaborative and the Kingfisher County Healthy Living Coalition. Students met at Clearview Circle off 13th Street at 7:20 a.m.

More than 50 county residents will be taking advantage of October’s cooler temps to up their daily step counts as participants in Kingfisher Community Collaborative’s first-ever Walk-tober.The month-long event is designed to encourage daily activity in the form of a friendly competition.

“Maps and Mapmaking: Historical Maps of Oklahoma,” a temporary exhibit at Chisholm Trail Museum in Kingfisher, earned an honorable mention certificate from the Oklahoma Museum Association.

Kingfisher Electric Department workers didn’t get much sleep Thursday night and neither did Kingfisher, Dover, Okarche and some Hennessey residents without air conditioners or electric fans.

Wyatt Burnett of Lomega 4-H claimed the biggest pumpkin trophy at the Oklahoma State Fair with this 572-pound giant. A front-end loader was needed to lift the pumpkin into the back of a pickup truck for transport. Wyatt is the grandson of Donald and Cathy Schweitzer of the Omega area.
