Hennessey High School was recently notified that they received a $500 grant for visual and performing arts supplies from the Oklahoma Arts Council. The school was among 70 other schools in the state to receive a grant.

The Okarche High School speech team conducted one of Oklahoma’s first virtual speech tournaments recently. Due to COVID-19, many speech and debate contests are choosing to “host” online rather than have a traditional in-person competition.

Dyshia Rosalie Evans and Randy Ray Yost were married Oct. 17, 2020, in a 6 p.m. ceremony at The Cedar Gate west of Kingfisher. Pastor T.C. Perkins of Thomas officiated the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Thomas Morris of Hunter and Della Rose Morris of Enid.

The Altrua Club met Oct. 21 at the Chisholm Trail Museum. Members present were Martha Burditt, Dana Golbek, Jneanne Kadavy, Jeanette Kloeppel, Terri Peck, Jowanna Sisk, Julie Storm and Cheryl Wheelbarger. Wheelbarger, president, conducted the meeting and served as hostess.

The Hennessey High School Student Council was awarded the Oklahoma Association of Student Councils’ Gold Chapter of Excellence for outstanding achievement for 2019-20. The honor is given to student councils which have a well-rounded program and are active on the local, district and state level.

The Kingfisher Police Department has investigated or responded to the following reports: November 3 - Malicious injury/destruction of property. Officer Dustin Brodrick responded to a report of a possible burglary in the 700 block of Zellers Avenue.

Brian Gilles, wireless product marketing coordinator at Pioneer Telephone, was the guest speaker of the Kingfisher Lions Club last Thursday. The focus of his presentation was to tell of Pioneer’s efforts to switch cellular customers to VoLTE technology.

The following traffic accidents are being investigated by the Kingfisher Police Department: October 30, 9:45 p.m. - At South Ninth Street and West Chisholm Drive. Reinaldo Roman, 60, Kingfisher, driving a 2015 Nissan Altima, was backing from his residence on South Ninth Street.

A Veterans Day assembly has been a Nov. 11 tradition for more than 50 years at Kingfisher High School, more than 30 years before the State Legislature mandated such patriotic observances at all public schools in 2001.
