Kingfisher County is on the verge of completing a quick and excellent wheat harvest. Local elevator operators predicted the harvest would be winding up this week. Some areas were already complete.

CANDIDATES FOR local and state office spoke to more than 80 prospective voters Thursday evening at a forum hosted by Kingfisher County Republican Women at the Kingfisher Heritage School auditorium.

The negative side of a dry wheat harvest reared its ugly head Tuesday…and again on Thursday. Wheat field fires were reported across the area as combines continued wrapping up the 2020 harvest.

An ADA power lift, and a “mother’s bench” in the water are just a couple of features of Hennessey’s new $2.1 million pool that opens with a ribbon-cutting at noon Monday, said Tiffany Tillman, town administrator. The 100-by-200 foot pool has a 6,100-foot deck and a 1,660 square-foot bathhouse.

Hennessey’s town board voted 4-1 to immediately “terminate the job position of public works director” Thursday night after a 45-minute executive session. That action left Curtis Turner without a job. “So this is it? Not even any severance pay after almost 15 years?” a visibly upset Turner asked.

The Town of Hennessey will host a meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Town Hall for all clubs and groups interested in planning and participating in the community’s July 4 events.

Rodney and Kris Schaefer of Okarche announce the engagement of their daughter Rachel to Daniel Craw of Yukon. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Bart and Kathy Craw. A graduate of Mooreland High School, he is employed at Austin Hose.

Less than a week remains for registered voters in Kingfisher County to apply for absentee ballots to be mailed to them for the June 30 election, reminds Kingfisher County Election Board Secretary Shawna Butts.

The University of Central Oklahoma recently announced the students named to the university’s honor rolls, a distinction given to those who achieve the highest academic standards.

The Kingfisher County Extension is hosting a barn quilt workshop later this month.The workshop will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at the Kingfisher County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building.Barn quilts are painted wooden squares that are hung on a barn or house.
