Baxter graduates from Marines’ basic training

Pvt. William J. Baxter, the son of Tammy and Gary Baxter of Kingfisher, graduated May 10 from a 13-week basic training in the U.S. Marine Corps in San Diego, Calif. A Kingfisher native, Baxter is the grandson of Michael and Norma Morrison, also of Kingfisher.

County Extension slates next barn quilt workshop

Kingfisher County Extension will host a workshop on barn quilts later this month. The workshop is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the Kingfisher County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building. There, participants will learn more about what barn quilts are and how to create one.

Briana and Michael Paph of Enid announce the birth of their daughter, Cora Mae. She was born June 23, 2019, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid. Cora weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 20 inches. Paternal grandparents are Frances Paph of Enid and the late Aaron Paph.

The fate of a new school building for a system swelling in enrollment numbers will be in the hands of voters in the Kingfisher Public School district later this year.

CITY RETIREE Shawn Barrett, second from left with grandson Clay Barrett, was recognized at Monday night’s city commission meeting for more than 30 years of service. Barrett started working for the city in February 1989 and became park superintendent in 1995.
