Kingfisher seniors States, Mercer are Rotary Club guests

Kingfisher High School seniors Garrett States and Kaleb Mercer were guests last week of the Kingfisher Rotary Club. States is the son of Scott and Meagan States. He is active in football, golf, FFA and FCA. States plans to attend Oklahoma State University and pursue a career in dentistry.

Lenten service series begins Wednesday

The annual Lenten Community Service series sponsored by the Kingfisher Ministerial Alliance begins Wednesday, March 6, at the Kingfisher Church of the Nazarene. The services, held from noon to 1 p.m. each Wednesday through April 10, are followed by free lunches. The series ends with a 6:30 p.m.

When retiring Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce manager Judy Whipple first started working as a part-time receptionist at the chamber office in 2000, she didn’t think any job in her diverse employment history necessarily qualified her to work in economic development.

County Wiz Kids

Bree Taylor of Kingfisher and Katie Bomhoff of Okarche were named among 100 high school seniors in the state as 2010 Academic All-Staters by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.

Bringing technology up close and hands on

Devon Energy recently made a donation to the Kingfisher STARS after-school program that teachers say will allow for more hands-on learning for students. Devon employees were on hand to donate a Maker Space Mobile Storage Cart.

OHS speech wins at Crescent

The Okarche High School speech team completed qualifying competition by winning the 3A sweepstakes trophy recently at the Crescent High School Speech Tournament. OHS had six students compete in the last qualifying tournament of the year.
