With a wet late summer and fall there is plenty of fuel for wild fires and we will have plenty of dry winds. Even with all the moisture we have grass fires can get out of control fast. Most of us realize this. A back fire helps, burning away from structures and property lines.

A Kansas construction company will be the contractor for Hennessey’s new municipal swimming pool. Carrothers Construction Co. was given the nod Feb. 11 by the Hennessey board to take on the project, which is not to exceed $2.1 million. The Paola, Kan.

Only one “no-bid” was opened last Monday by county commissioners on the conversion of a military truck into a heavy brush truck for the Loyal Fire Department. County Clerk Jeannie Boevers said solicitation notices were sent to five potential bidders on the job.

The fate of two proposed sober living houses still hangs in the balance after Kingfisher city commissioners voted unanimously to table the issue following a lengthy discussion at their regular monthly meeting Monday night.
