West, Mueggenborg garner OBCA’s top Region 1 honors
Roby, Mitchell, Buck also on all-region squad
As expected, the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association’s All-Region 1 team has a strong Kingfi sher County flavor.
Okarche’s Jett Mueggenborg was named the Player of the Year and Aaron West the Coach of the Year in a vote of the region’s coaches.
Region 1 is a 17-county area in northwest Oklahoma that includes every school in Kingfi sher, Logan, Canadian, Blaine, Custer, Dewey, Garfield, Grant, Alfalfa, Major, Ellis, Woodward, Woods, Harper, Beaver, Texas and Cimarron counties.
More than six dozen schools are represented in the region, regardless of classifi cation.
In addition to the top two awards, three more county players were among the 13 others selected to the all-region team.
They were Mueggenborg’s Okarche teammate Easton Roby, Dover’s Casen Buck and Cashion’s Parker Mitchell.
West recently guided Okarche to its third consecutive Class A state championship.
The Warriors were 29-3 on the season with their lone losses coming to a 5A school and two 6A schools at the Tournament of Champions.
Mueggenborg averaged 28.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, Jett Mueggenborg Aaron West 4.8 assists and 3.4 steals a game during his senior campaign for the Warriors.
For his career, he notched 2,845 points, 910 rebounds and 500 assists. He became the school’s all-time leading scorer during the season.
Roby averaged 16.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2 steals a game.
He had 1,832 points, 695 rebounds and 339 assists during his career, one that saw the Warriors amass a 114-10 record in four years.
Mitchell managed 20.0 points, 4.0 assists and 3.3 rebounds a night for Cashion and had 1,165 career points.
Roby, Mueggenborg and Mitchell were recently named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All- State team, among several other honors.
Buck is only a junior and helped guide the Longhorns to their fi rst-ever boys basketball state championship.
He scored 18.0 points while also averaging 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.5 steals a game as Dover was 30-2 on the season.
Like Okarche, the Longhorns were ranked No. 1 in their class all season.
Buck earlier was named the Skeltur Conference co-MVP among other postseason honors.
