‘It’s a great day to be a Jacket!’

He was the king of nicknames, but also went by a few himself.His name was David Glover, but would answer to just “Glover.”Or “Mr. Glover.” Or “Coach.” Or “Glove.” Or, his favorite, “Pops.” Glover’s unfair and so cruel battle against cancer came to an end early Saturday morning.

Several softball teams converged on Kingfisher County Thursday and Friday for the Dover Fastpitch Festival. Dover played Leedey and Hennessey on the opening day. The Lady Bison handed DHS a 6-0 loss in the first game of the festival. Hennessey downed the Lady Longhorns 5-2 in the nightcap.

Kingfisher’s yo-yo up and down the District 4A-1 standings took a tumble last week.The Lady Jackets went 1-2 for the week, but both defeats were to district foes as they fell 4-2 at Weatherford on Tuesday and then 10-3 at Bethany on Thursday.

Cross country runners both boys and girls - got a dose of a 5 kilometer race last Saturday.KHS took part in the second annual Clay Tarter Memorial Invitational in Guthrie.The Lady Jackets took third place out of 10 teams with 109 points.

Chisholm run attack too much for Eagles

The first seven minutes belonged to Hennessey.The next 41 - and the game - were dominated by Chisholm.After scoring the game’s first 13 points last Friday, the Eagles had no answer for Chisholm’s run game in a 56-13 road loss.

Velma-Alma knocks off Cashion

Another early knee injury and Velma-Alma’s bruising ground game late in the game led to Cashion’s first loss of the season.Comet quarterback Slade Strickland scored on a 33-yard run with 1:13 to play to lift the visitors to a 28-20 victory over Cashion.

The 2024 football season begins this Friday night for Kingfisher High School.The Yellwojackets will host Weatherford to begin their season on the gridiron.As always, a big part of the game day atmosphere are two groups: One that’s on the sidelines and another that’s in the stands.
