Gant Browning scored the bulk of Kingfisher’s points at last weekend’s Cushing Tiger Invitational.Browning took sixth place in the 126-pound bracket and was the Jackets’ only placer.The junior went 4-3 in his bracket.

Three Kingfisher County basketball teams celebrated tournament championships over the weekend. The Kingfisher High School boys (top left) hoisted the Wheat Capital Tournament championship in Chisholm for the ninth time in 10 years.

Caleb Shafer came off the bench to record a double-double as Cashion stayed unbeaten in Three Rivers Conference games.Shafer had 10 points and 13 rebounds as the Wildcats beat Oklahoma Bible Academy 50-36 Tuesday in Enid.

Another long road trip didn’t affect the Okarche girls basketball team.The Lady Warriors fresh off their trip to the Tournament of Champions in Tulsa - made the trek to Cordell on Tuesday and came back with a 75-25 victory.

Crescent pulled off a bit of an upset Tuesday to grab its first win of the season.The Lady Tigers used strong second and third quarters to defeat Hennessey 52-49 at the Eagle Event Center.Crescent entered the game with an 0-5 record while Hennessey was 6-1.

Caden Kitchens helped get Kingfisher going against Chickasha.Jud Birdwell played a bigger role in finishing off the Chicks.The Jackets on Tuesday ended a rare losing streak in defeating Chickasha 73-33 on the road.

After three quarters of action last Tuesday night, Chickasha’s girls basketball team had scored 16 points.Kingfisher’s Addy Matthews had netted 17.Unfortunately for the host Lady Chicks, Matthews had plenty of help as the Lady Jackets ran away with a 50-28 victory.

Kingfisher has dominated the boys bracket of the Wheat Capital Tournament for the better part of the last decade and its first showing there in 2023 was no different.The top-seeded Jackets manhandled Perry 79-31 Thursday to move into the semifinals.
