KHS crowns soccer king and queen

Kingfisher High School held its first-ever soccer homecoming ceremonies last Friday just before the Lady Jackets and Jackets swept Alva in District 3A-2 contests. Prior to the girls’ game, seniors Diego Muñoz (1) and Jackie Rivera were announced as the homecoming king and queen. Junior attendants were Nash Broddle and Baylor Schlegel. After the ceremony, Kingfisher took care of action on the field. The Lady Jackets picked up a 4-0 victory, scoring two goals in each half. Maya Haney and Kylee Rojas scored the goals in the early moments of the first half. The second half saw Rojas get an assist on Jennings Broddle’s goal and then Ariana Rivera capped it with a goal late in the contest. Zoey Padilla had six saves. The Kingfisher boys didn’t need a second half to get their win. In fact, they didn’t need much of the first half to get their goals in a 10-0 mercy-rule win over the Goldbugs. KHS had all of its goals within the first 15 minutes, though the teams had to play out the first half. Two different Jackets notched hat tricks as Jake Sisk, seen scoring below, recorded four of his team’s goals. Zander Padilla had three goals for KHS. Eduardo DeLaTorre added two goals and Reid Witt scored once. Kingfisher traveled to Mount St. Mary Monday night and was dealt a pair of district losses. The Lady Jackets fell 6-1 as Rojas scored the team’s lone goal on a second-half free kick. The Jackets’ suffered a heartbreaker as the game with the Rockets went all the way to penalty kicks. The Rockets outscored KHS 4-2 in penalty kicks to earn the 1-0 victory. Kingfi sher is now 1-3 in district games.
