Meet the former members of the Lacy Panthers basketball teams

George White (seated) put on his 1968 Lacy High School basketball uniform during the all-school reunion held May 24 at the Hennessey Senior Citizens Center. White and John Wayne Thorp (pictured in the group) were members of the Lacy Panthers team that won the district basketball tournament in 1968. That was also the same year the school closed. White and John Thorp tossed the ball around to get the attention of some of the other guys who’d played in earlier years for this group photo. Standing, from left, are: Delbert Hladik, Nick Boettler, Wencelaus “Butch” Hladik, John Wayne Thorp, Darrel Mauck, Lee Briix, Chuck Grimes, Roe LaPorte and Jim Wilson; and back row, Bob Hickman, Mac Perigo and Larry Thorp. The Lacy School (1921-68) was located 10 miles west of Hennessey on State Highway 51 and all that remains is the school’s lunch room, which is now a community center. [Photo by Barb Walter]
