2021 Grand National Quail Hunt held at Cline Ranch near Hennessey

Three men and two dogs start across the Cline Ranch west of Hennessey in search of birds during the opening day of the 2021 Grand National Quail Hunt. “Hunters come from all over,” Perry Cline said about this year’s hunters and those in the past. This year was the same, except he only had five hunters instead of the usual 12. “They all had no trouble getting their limits,” Cline said about the annual event. Cline said his late-father, Pat Cline, “got into the Grand National from the start.” The late Irvin Bollenbach, a longtime Kingfisher rancher, had the hunts there “and when they quit, we started having them here about five years ago.” This year’s hunt was Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 16 and 18, and the host landowners provide food for their guests. Hunters stayed in Enid on Wednesday for clay pigeon shoots, Cline said. [Photo provided]

All plants, but especially narrowleaf and broadleaf evergreens, use water during winter. When little or no soil moisture is present, plants can become desiccated and it is more likely root damage will also occur.
