ALL THE BUZZ

ALL THE BUZZ — Not long into his tenure, Kingfisher High School Principal John Harris was approached by some students who wanted to revive the school’s dormant mascot. The decision was made by Harris and the students that if they were going to bring “Buzz” back to life, they were going to do it right and go for a complete rebranding. On top of ordering a new suit for the mascot, students had the opportunity to change his name. A group of students selected three contenders to put to a school-wide vote: Buzz, Jerry the Jacket and Stan the Stinger. Tradition won out and “Buzz” was announced as the winner at halftime of last Friday night’s football game.“I was very impressed with the student initiative and follow-through in reviving the mascot,” said Harris, who added that Riley Dacus, the school’s yearbook sponsor as well as a communications and videography teacher, played a vital role. Harris said KHS students Brett Mulherin and Caden Kitchens will take turns this year in the mascot suit. Pictured with Buzz during the announcement last week are KHS cheerleaders, from left: Ashley Casillas, Raylee Nance, Libbie Barnett, Anna Massey, Savannah Rosen, Kamryn Purintun, Kylee Rojas, Mia Hartman, Amy Deatherage, Jaelin Cortes, Ivy Hartman and Haleigh Eaton.
