P.E.O. Day proclaimed in Kingfisher

Kingfisher Mayor Geoff Covalt, left, presented a proclamation to fellow city commissioner Tammy Sammons, who also served as vice president of Chapter Y of Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.). The proclamation was presented during the January regular meeting of the commission. It declared Jan. 21 as P.E.O. Day in Kingfisher in recognition of Founder’s Day for the organization. It was founded Jan. 21, 1869. Kingfisher’s Chapter Y was established April 22, 1913. The proclamation reads, in part: WHEREAS the P.E.O. Sisterhood has been empowering women through education, philanthropy, and service since that time; and WHEREAS this organization continues to help women meet their educational goals through scholarships, educational grants, and loans; and WHEREAS Chapter Y and the P.E.O. sisterhood continue to motivate, educate, and celebrate women in our community, across the state, and internationally, strengthening communities and inspiring leadership; NOW THEREFORE I, Geoff Covalt, Mayor of the City of Kingfisher, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, January 21, 2026 be designated as P.E.O. Day In Kingfisher, Oklahoma and encourage residents to observe the day in honor of Chapter Y P.E.O. as they continue their mission to motivate, educate, and celebrate women. [Photo provided]
