When Abby Richter Coleman and her new husband Shawn traveled more than 3,500 miles to remote Alaska for their wedding trip, the last thing they expected was a reminder of her hometown of Kingfisher. But when they visited the Iditarod Trail Race headquarters in Wasilla, they learned that Joe Redington Sr., the father of the famous race, was born in Kingfisher. That fact might not have been quite as cool as getting to mush an actual sled dog team, but it was close. Abby is the daughter of former Kingfisher Church of Christ minister Ken Richter and wife Kim. The executive director of the Oklahoma Lions Service Foundation was the guest speaker last Thursday at the Kingfisher Lions Club meeting. Marie F. Burns, who also serves as the secretary of Oklahoma Lions, discussed the many projects sponsored by the service foundation. They include a mobile health screening unit, Meadows of Hope, the Oklahoma Lions Eye Bank and the Oklahoma Lions Kid’s Sight.
