OU’s CFP showdown trumps KHS basketball
The University of Oklahoma’s first-ever home playoff football game may have cost Kingfi sher High School a basketball game. It certainly led to its postponement.
Kingfisher was scheduled to play at Heritage Hall on Friday night.
While a number of games being played Friday were moved to earlier in the day to allow fans to watch OU host Alabama in the opening round of the College Football Playoff, Kingfisher’s host was looking to call off the games altogether.
Among the reasons? Two members of Heritage Hall’s girls’ team are Laney and Addie Venables, daughters of OU head coach Brent Venables.
There were several others connected to the Heritage Hall teams who wanted to avoid the confl ict the basketball games presented.
So, the games, as of now, are not being played.
“We are looking at trying to find a date to reschedule,” said KHS girls coach Taylor Young.
With the Heritage Hall game not being played, the Kingfisher boys’ game against Tuttle last Tuesday was their last until Jan. 6 when they host Casady.
The Lady Jackets return to action Monday, Dec. 29, when they play Howe in the opening round of the Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic in Ada.
