Kingfisher’s 12-and-under baseball team downed Washington 8-4 last Saturday at Briscoe Park to win the OK Kids regional championship. The win advances the Jackets to this week’s state tournament in Weatherford. The Jackets began play in the state tournament Tuesday afternoon against Elk City in the first round of the Red Bracket. Kingfisher went undefeated in the regional, opening up Thursday with a 10-0 victory against 405 and then following that up with an 11-7 win that evening against the Demons. In the championship semifinal, Kingfisher handled Cashion Wildcats 11-1 on Friday. In the driver’s seat, Kingfi sher would need to be defeated twice by the survivor of the consolation bracket, but there was no “if” game necessary as the Jackets took care of business against the Washington Warriors. Team members are, from left: front row, Maverick Stebens, Bryson Black, Cooper Myers, Jo Jo Voth, Beau Brueggen; middle row, Kolton Cline, Jordan Maddux, Kruz Meyer, Isaac Martin, Declan Matthews, Gage Kusik; and back row, coach Chase Farrar, coach Joe Voth, Reid Swafford, Matthew Schaefer, Cal Farrar and coach Heath Myers.
