‘This was an experience of a lifetime’
Perdue cherishes opportunity to compete at Oklahoma DYW
Kingfisher County’s reigning Distinguished Young Woman may not have won the statewide competition, but she certainly didn’t come away empty-handed.
“It was a very rewarding experience that gave me lifelong friendships and memories to look back on,” said Elizabeth Perdue, who is entering her senior year at Kingfisher High School.
Perdue won the 2020 DYW of Kingfisher County last year and competed June 23-27 in the Oklahoma Distinguished Young Women of 2020 in Bartlesville.
She was one of seven contestants.
During the week, she stayed with a host family, which was just part of her experience.
“We spent the busy week volunteering at The Elder Care Center and Mary Martha Outreach, both located in Bartlesville,” she said.
“We also toured the famous Price Tower Arts Center and the Tri-County Technology Center.”
The competition itself consisted of fitness, interview, scholastic and “Be Your Best Self.”
“This was an experience of a lifetime how all the girls brought different aspects to the table,” noted Perdue. “None of them had agriculture background like myself.”
Perdue has spent much of the past year representing Kingfisher County as its Distinguished Young Woman at various events.
“Elizabeth has been a true joy to get to know better,” said Johanna Adams, director of the DYW of Kingfisher County. “We can’t wait to see all the wonderful things you will do in life.”
Perdue plans to attend Oklahoma State University and major in pre-law.
