‘Always, I fight on’
KHS students, faculty host assembly honoring military
U.S. ARMY Staff Sgt. Eli Davis, guest speaker, quoted the Infantryman’s Creed and then shared this poignant reminder of military sacrifi ce at the Kingfi sher High School Veteran’s Day assembly Monday: “Somewhere right now, there is a grunt that woke up on the side of a mountain, boiled water with heat tabs in a small pocket stove just to have the pleasure of a hot cup of coffee, which will be the highlight of his day. Somewhere right now, there is a mom who is deployed with her babies at home, about to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas without their mom. Somewhere right now, there is a mom and dad gone with grandparents and friends helping with their kids for the next year. Somewhere right now, there is an 18-year old who’s about to miss his fi rst Thanksgiving – and had his fi rst gun fi ght all in the same month. Don’t feel sorry for them. That’s part of the job. They just want to complete the mission and come home.” From left are Boys State delegates Jackson Leffi ngwell, Matthew Palmer, Daken Milligan, Harrison Themer (also student council president), McCall Sinclair and Hayden Wittrock; Davis; Victoria Gerken, Jentry Squires and Sara Sanders, and members of the Enid High School ROTC, who presented the colors. The KHS choir and band also performed and Brenden Hill closed the program with “Taps.” [ Photo Courtesy KHS Photography]
