2nd nursing home death, but active cases down
Another Hennessey COVID-19 death, the town and county’s second, was reported Tuesday in the Oklahoma State Department of Health statistics, but the number of active cases was down significantly.
The second death was reported as a 98-year-old female who died at the Hennessey Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility and was among 25 residents who tested positive for the disease in a recent outbreak among residents and staff.
Administrator Jill Vincent said the woman exhibited symptoms of the disease but also suffered from underlying conditions which contributed to her death.
Among the seven facility residents who were hospitalized to treat COVID-19 complications, five have been discharged and transferred back to the center, one was expected to be discharged this week and the seventh was a 79-year-old woman who died last week.
Vincent reported that only two residents and five staff members are still considered to be actively infected. The remainder have remained symptom free for the state-mandated isolation periods.
Staff and residents who so far have not tested positive will be retested weekly by the state, Vincent said.
Separate nursing care is being provided for those residents who ever tested positive for the disease, Vincent said. Otherwise, the center is back to operating at its previous staffing levels.
Countywide, 45 active cases were reported, down from 84 reported Monday. While the lion’s share still reside within the Hennessey zip code, active cases townwide were down to 27, from 62 reported Monday.
Statewide, 8,601 cases were reported as active Tuesday, down 148 from Monday’s numbers.
