4 positives close LPS for 1 week

By

Four positive tests and a number of others affected by contact tracing led Lomega to move to its distance learning plan for at least one week.

The district announced Thursday that it would move to distance learning beginning the next day and will continue throughout this week.

“We will re-evaluate the situation on Thursday and see if it’s something we’re going to continue for another week,” said Superintendent Steve Shiever.

There were two positive tests in each the junior high-high school and elementary campuses, according to Shiever. There are other tests still pending, he said.

“But it was the contact tracing that really affected not just our students, but our teachers and staff,” Shiever said.

He said about 25 percent of the student body was absent Thursday.

“That’s a combination of positive tests, contact tracing and some who just didn’t feel comfortable being there,” Shiever said.
