Abercrombie’s big day at plate helps KHS earn come-from-behind victory

By

Kingfisher got one final baseball game in before all activities were shut down by the Department of Education.

And, whether it’s their last game for a while or for the season, the Jackets made it an exciting one.

Clayton Abercrombie drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh and Will Taylor shut the door in the bottom half as KHS earned a 6-5 come-from-behind win against Weatherford at Homier Field last Saturday afternoon.

Abercrombie’s RBI was his fifth of the game.

It pushed home Cade Stephenson, who walked and stole second with two outs.

Weatherford got the tying run on base with a twoout walk, but Taylor coaxed a pop-up to end the game.

The Jackets improved to 5-0 despite trailing 5-1 after four innings.

They closed the gap in the fifth by scoring four runs with two outs.

Three walks and a single sprinkled in with a couple of outs loaded the bases and prompted the Eagles to pull Braden Epp for Jaxon Ratterree.

Ratterree was rudely met by a three-run triple off Abercrombie’s bat.

That pushed home Stephenson, Brady Friesen and Tate Barton, who was a courtesy runner for Ian Daugherty after the latter had singled.

Case Wills then sent Abercrombie home with a double to tie the game.

Taylor then sat down the Eagles in order in the fifth and worked around two singles in the sixth to hold them scoreless.

The junior got the win with five innings of relief. He gave up three hits and two unearned runs while striking out three.

Taylor didn’t give up a run over the final three innings.

He relieved Keaton Abercrombie after two innings. The starter gave up three runs (two earned) and two hits while striking out three.

Tate Taylor put KHS on top early when he singled in the first and later scored on Clayton Abercrombie’s two-out double.

The Eagles tied the game in the bottom half then scored twice in the second and twice more in the fourth.

Clayton Abercrombie ended his day 3 for 4.

He drove in five of Kingfisher’s runs and scored the other.

Stephenson walked twice for the Jackets and scored both times.

The loss was Weatherford’s first of the season as it fell to 5-1.
