Federated Church breaks ground on new annex to help serve the community

By

With an increased desire to offer more community outreach came the necessity of more space to help provide it.

That was the dilemma facing the Federated Church in Kingfisher.

That dilemma is on its way to being solved.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the church’s new annex was held last week. The church has been raising money for the project through its membership and is at a point it can start moving forward.

The approximately 8,000 square-feet building will serve many purposes, but one is at or near the top of the list.

“Essentially the purpose of the building is to improve our community outreach,” said Brent Henderson, a member of the church’s building committee.

The church already has a handful of projects it stages each year. One of them is a free garage sale held multiple times a year.

“Our fellowship hall would be so full that you couldn’t even walk through it,” Henderson noted.

“We basically just ran out of room so this new annex will give us the space to do that right.”

It will also offer a better setting for the church’s annual Advent auction, fellowship dinners, its “Trunk or Treat” night and more.

The annex, which will be attached to the existing church, will include a gym floor, stage, kitchen, restrooms and other amenities.

The church is currently securing bids for the project.

Henderson said he hopes dirt work begins by the end of this month.

“We hope, if all goes well, it will be done by the end of the year,” he said.
