Alexander vies for mayor seat

[ Editor’s note: Roxie Alexander has authorized the Times & Free Press to publish the following announcement of her candidacy for Mayor of Kingfisher, subject to the April 7 municipal election.]

I, Roxie Alexander, announce my candidacy for Mayor of Kingfisher.

My roots run deep in Kingfisher, learning at an early age that the city’s continued growth and prosperity doesn’t just happen – it takes commitment on the part of its residents.

I have lived in Kingfisher most of my life. I have been a business owner, involved in multiple civic and city activities before I became a City Commissioner.

One thing I have learned since becoming commissioner is what a great group of city employees we have and how devoted they are to doing a great job for our residents.

I’ve also learned that we have so many people outside city government working to make Kingfisher a better place to live and work, as your Mayor I want to help them do that.

I learned from my parents, Francis and Ida Schwarz how important it is to support our local businesses and to be involved in Kingfisher.

Because of this early influence, I am prepared to go all out to promote Kingfisher, preserving its history while positioning the city for future innovation and development.

As a City Commissioner, I attended municipal government training programs, in-state and out-of-state conferences, to gather ideas and insights that can be implemented in Kingfisher.

After being elected to a second term in office three years ago, I was appointed to the position of vice mayor, giving me the opportunity to preside over meetings in the occasional absence of the current mayor as well as take on other leadership duties.

I feel like becoming mayor is the next logical step. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished over the last seven years and I’m anxious to be a part of the projects to come.

My husband Jimmy, who is retired from a lengthy oilfield career, and I have one son, Logan, who is a film director’s assistant in Los Angeles.

At this point in my life, I not only have the experience and desire to serve as mayor, but I have the time to devote to doing the job right.

I love this community and I’m ready to keep on working to make it better and better.

Roxie Alexander asks for your vote for Mayor on April 7, 2020.
