Almost time to detour again
Portions of S.H. 33 to be shut down as crews finish project
Oklahoma Department of Transportation is urging motorists to start planning now to locate an alternate route for a full closure of eastbound and westbound State Highway 33 between Sixth and Second streets in Kingfisher.
While ODOT said the closure will start mid-month with no confirmed date, the contractor has posted signs indicating the date is Oct. 19.
The route is expected to be closed for up to 25 days and is necessary because the passage through the underpass is too narrow to allow traffic to be shifted while the last section of pavement repairs are made on the project that started early this year.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and con gestion in the area and to plan extra travel time along alternate routes.
Local traffic can use side streets around the closure, but commercial truck traffic will be rerouted along the following detours:
• Eastbound traffic will turn north on U.S. 81 to S.H. 51, then east to S.H. 74, then south back to S.H. 33.
• Westbound travelers will be asked to take the reverse route, north at S.H. 74, then west at S.H. 51 and south at U.S. 81 back to S.H. 33.
The $1.3 million project was awarded by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission in June 2019 to Schiralli Construction Corp. of Wilson.
The project time frame is dependent upon cooperating weather.
