BADGES BEAT BOOTS
BADGES BEAT BOOTS for the second consecutive year in the friendly rivalry blood drive competition between the Kingfisher Fire Department, represented by Chief Tony Stewart at left, and the Kingfisher Police Department, represented by Chief Dennis Baker. Despite frigid temperatures and icy conditions, more donors turned out than ever. A total of 91 volunteers donated blood or blood products during the drive, up from 89 last year. Among the total donors, 55 did so on behalf of the police department and 34 for the fire department, while two remained neutral. Friendly rivalry aside, both of the city’s emergency response departments recognize the need for steady and reliable blood supplies, particularly during the winter months when donations may be down but accidents, injuries, illnesses and other emergencies requiring blood supplies are more frequent than ever. “Given the weather we were dealt, Chief Stewart and I are extremely pleased with the turnout at the blood drive,” Baker said. “Of course, I may be a little more pleased because I get to keep the trophy.” [Photo Provided]
