Candidates introduced for rodeo royalty

Kingfisher Roundup Club will crown a 2020 rodeo queen and princess at the annual rodeo this weekend. Queen contestants include Lesli Olivas of Hennessey and Jamie Goldman of Waukomis and Kayla Kremeier of Okarche is the princess contestant.

Lesli Olivas

Olivas is the daughter of Jesus and Nora Olivas of Hennessey, and is a freshman at Hennessey High School.

She competes in barrel racing and enjoys participating in local playdays and rodeos.

In addition to horses and riding, her interests include volleyball and fishing.

After high school, Olivas plans to earn a college degree and pursue a career as an equine chiropractor.

Jamie Goldman

Goldman is the daughter of the late James Goldman Jr. and graduated from Waukomis High School in 2014.

She currently works as a vet assistant at Hennessey Veterinary Clinic, where she puts her horsemanship and communication skills to use.

In addition to four horses, her extensive animal “herd” includes four dogs, five cats, a dozen chickens and a bottle calf named Prissy.

Besides participating in playdays, Goldman’s hobbies include fishing and noodling.

Kayla Kremeier

Kayla is the 11-year old daughter of Doug and Amy Kremeier of Okarche.

Her grandparents are Marlin and Kathy Kremeier of Okarche and Joleen Hensley and the late Ray Hensley of Mooreland.

She is a sixth grader at Okarche and in addition to riding horses, she plays basketball and softball and helps on her family’s ranch.

She has been a member of the National Little Britches Rodeo Association, the Northwest Oklahoma Junior Rodeo Association and the Edmond Junior Rodeo Association, where she has participated in barrel racing, pole bending and goat tying.

Kayla is currently training Toby, a green broke horse that she is in the process of finishing out.She wants to be a nurse practitioner when she grows up.
