Cashion FFA begins school year under leadership of Holly Drake

Cashion FFA has welcomed Holly Drake as the program’s new advisor.

Drake is a 1998 Cash-ion alum. She has taught agricultural education at Luther High School for 17 years.

She’s already been a part of a busy summer and start of a new school year.

Four Cashion FFA members attended Alumni Leadership Camp held July 3-6.

Members attended this camp to become better leaders and to learn new leadership skills. The camp was held at the Camp Tulakogee Conference Center in Wagoner. Members in attendance were Ryann Ball, Tyndal Fields, Jayce Evans and Wyatt Collins.

Members of the Cashion 4-H and FFA attended the Big 3 Livestock Judging Contest in Stillwater.

Six members judged sheep and goats for the first day. They included Jake Wilkerson, Wyatt Collins, Ryann Ball, Bella Ball, Saron Gentry and Jayce Evans.

On the second day, eight members judged cattle. They were Jake Wilkerson, Jayce Evans, Cathleen Hamil, Ryann Ball, Wyatt Collins, Tyndal Fields, Saron Gentry and Bella Ball.

Nine members judged swine on the final day:Nathaniel Bronaugh, Jake Wilkerson, Kendra Bryant, Cathleen Hamil, Jayce Evans, Wyatt Collins, Ryann Ball, Bella Ball and Kali Galliher.

Each day had seven sets of animals and contestants would place each set best-to-worst.

After all the sets, they would get the official placings for each set and each would get a score overall for that day.

Cashion FFA officers completed officer training on Aug. 7.

New chapter officers Wyatt Collins, Jayce Evans, Tyndal Fields, Ryann Ball and Jake Wilkerson met with Makala Parsons, the 2018-2019 Oklahoma FFA central area vice president.

The new officers learned the steps of being a good chapter officer. Along with that, they also toured the Blue and Gold Sausage Company with Brett Ramsey.

Six members of the Cash-ion 4-H and FFA exhibited sheep and goats Aug. 17 at the Kingfisher County Free Fair.

Evan Hines placed third with his doe goat.

Makayla Hines placed first with her Southdown ewe.

Jayce Evans placed second with his natural market lamb.

Sheldon Gentry placed first with both his natural and Hamp sheep. Gentry also placed third with his Shrop in the open sheep show.

Saron Gentry placed third with her Hamp, first with her natural and second with her cross market lambs.

Five members showed swine at the fair the next day.

Jake Wilkerson placed second with his Duroc gilt, first with one of his cross gilts and third with his other cross gilt.

Emerson Belt was second with her spot gilt.

Bella Ball placed second with her Duroc gilt and was also reserve breed champion Duroc. She also placed second with her York gilt and was champion intermediate showman.

Ryann Ball placed first in class and was breed champion with both her Poland gilt and spot gilt. Ball also was champion commercial gilt and reserve grand overall gilt.

Makenna Chickering placed first and was grand champion open market swine.

Chickering was also champion junior showman.
