Cashion names teachers of the year
LaFortune earns honor at elementary, Taylor at CHS
Cashion Public Schools recently named its teachers of the year for the 2018-19 school year.
Honored were Andrea Taylor at the high school and Lori LaFortune at the elementary.
The awards were announced after a vote of the district’s teachers.
LaFortune currently teaches fourth grade math.
She’s spent 13 of her 21-year teaching career in Cashion.
She’s taught second through sixth grades during her career.
“I love to see the excitement on my students’ faces when they discover something new or the confidence that grows when they begin to understand a concept,” LaFortune said.
She added she loves “to help them grow academically, socially and emotionally, brings me joy.”
Taylor has been teaching for 11 years and is wrapping up her fifth year in Cashion.
She is currently the high school’s English and leadership teacher.
She also coaches track, cross country and was recently named the head girls basketball coach.
“My favorite part of teaching is the students and the relationships I get to build with them,” Taylor said.
“My students challenge me everyday, they motivate me to be better, they keep me on my toes, and they reward me with their successes. No other profession allows you the opportunities my students give me everyday.”
