Charity golf event slated here Sunday

By

Two annual golf scrambles are combining forces this weekend in hopes of continuing to aid the finalization of the Playground of Dreams.

A four-person scramble will be Sunday, Sept. 20, at Kingfisher Golf Course. Shotgun start is 1 p.m.

It’s a combination of the second annual Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce tournament and the fifth annual benefit scramble hosted by the Kingfisher Golf Association (KGA).

All proceeds from this year’s tournament will go toward the new handicap-accessible restrooms being constructed at Kingfisher Park.

That’s one of the final steps of the Wheatbelt Ambucs of Kingfisher County’s project to overhaul the park.

The biggest part of that came during the grand opening of the new all-accessible playground earlier this summer.

The KGA aided the fundraising efforts for Ambucs with its benefit scramble last year.

The scramble itself raised $13,239 and the KGA kicked in another $2,000.

In all, the KGA’s benefits have raised more than $34,000 for various charitable causes.

The late Glenda Boeckman Wolf was an Ambucs member who was instrumental in the fundraising efforts for the park for a number of years.

It was after her passing in March 2019 that the fundraising truly took off.

Wolf was also an avid golfer.

“We just know how proud Glenda would be of everything that’s going on at the park and we just wanted to continue to do our part to help finish it,” said Gary Wilson, the club pro at the golf course and KGA member.

The cost for the scramble is $250 per team. The tournament will be limited to the first 36 teams.

Hole sponsorships are also available.
