City launches sales tax page
The City of Kingfisher has launched a new Facebook page for the purpose of informing citizens about the proposed half-cent sales tax to be voted on May 11.
The page can be found at the following link:www.facebook.com/kingfisherfiretax2021.
“The purpose of the Facebook page is to provide information to increase awareness of the proposal, so that voters can be educated and informed when going to the polls in May,” City Manager Dave Slezickey said.
“The social media postings allow us to interact with registered voters in the city to answer questions or provide more information.”
The page includes videos and frequently asked questions and answers, but also encourages feedback from residents with questions of their own, Slezickey said.
“We’re adding more content regularly between now and May 11, so we are encouraging residents to ‘like and share’ the page so they don’t miss any posts,” he said.
City Commissioners voted earlier this month to call for the May 11 citywide vote on the proposed 10-year sales tax.
Proceeds of the tax, which city staff conservatively estimates to be about $6.5 million over the 10-year period, will be earmarked to construct a new fire station, improve city streets and pay for other capital improvements approved by the commission, Slezickey said.
If voters approve the half-cent tax, project photos and updates will be regularly posted on the special Facebook page to keep residents apprised of how the tax is being spent, he said.
