Commissioners enact countywide burn ban
Kingfisher County Commissioners declared a two-week burn ban in the county effective immediately at their weekly meeting Tuesday.
District 2 Commissioner Ray Alan Shimanek moved to begin the burn ban due to drought conditions and the possibility of high winds.
He said Hennessey Fire Chief Brandon Scott called him to request the immediate start of the ban.
Lakota Bullard of the Big Four Fire Department, who attended the meeting on another matter, agreed that the burn ban was needed.
District 1 Commissioner Jeff Moss, commission chairman, seconded the action and both voted in favor of the ban.
District 3 Commissioner Anthony Schwarz was absent due to a previous engagement.
The ban affects all burning – from trash to fireworks and extends for the next two weeks.
Shimanek said a local rain could affect its duration.
Commissioners approved a state Department of Transportation county road map, correcting it to state that a road in the southeast corner of the county should be listed as Wolf Creek Lane, rather than Shelby Lane.
