By

Kingfisher County commissioners began new responsibilities Monday at the annual rotation of responsibilities meeting.

District 3 Commissioner Heath Dobrovolny became chairman, succeeding District 2 Commissioner Ray Alan Shimanek and District 1 Commissioner Jeff Moss became vice-chairman succeeding Dobrovolny in that position.

County Emergency Management Director Steve Loftis reported that coronavirus cases were lower this week at 145, down from 151 a week earlier.

Loftis said the disease had claimed 12 lives in the county.

Loftis listed active cases by community as follow: Cashion 28, Dover 5, Hennessey 35, Kingfisher 57, Loyal six and Okarche 14.

During the short business meeting, commissioners declared three items belonging to District 2 as surplus, clearing the way for them to be sold at the Circuit Engineering District 8 Auction later, and approved an OG&E road crossing permit one mile east and two miles south of Omega in District 3.

The surplus items include a 2000 Galion road grader and two 2007 Chevrolet crew cab trucks.

All commissioners were present for the meeting as well as Emily Lee, deputy county clerk, as minute clerk, County Engineer Nik Smith, Sheriff Dennis Banther, county pipeline inspector Cody Murray and Loftis.
