Copeland seeks re-election

By

[Editor’s Note: Mike Copeland has authorized the Times & Free Press to announce his candidacy for re-election to the Kingfisher Board of Education, subject to the April 6 vote]

My name is Michael Copeland and I am excited to announce I am seeking re-election for the Kingfisher School Board, a position I have taken to heart and with great responsibility for the last 10 years.

I was born and raised in Kingfisher and graduated in 1981. I earned a bachelor’s degree from UCO in business administration. I am currently the finance and insurance manager at City Trailer Inc.

I met my wife, Donna, in college and we have been married for 35 years. We have been blessed with two daughters: Nicole, a 2007 KHS graduate and OSU alumnus who is a first grade teacher in the Oklahoma City Public School System; and Megan, a 2011 KHS graduate and OSU alumnus who is an accountant at Devon Energy.

We watched our children flourish academically as a result of the Kingfisher School System.

After working in several larger cities, we moved back to Kingfisher in 1997 to be closer to family and to raise our children in Kingfisher. My wife and I wanted to give our girls every opportunity available to them a smaller school has to offer. It could not have been a better decision. Through the years, the girls were in many activities and we have witnessed the hard work and dedication that the teachers, administration, and support staff at Kingfisher Schools have provided.

This great town has a strong sense of community and benefits from a well regarded school district. Our community relies on its board members to manage matters that benefit the students in all areas from academic achievement to the arts and athletics.

With my work background in management, finance and accounting, I have gained experiences that have a wide range of ideas to the school board. These experiences have guided me and keep me focused on maintaining the highest standards of the educational system, regardless of the challenges we have had to face in the last 10 years.

As a school board member, first and foremost, my priority is to ensure that the children of Kingfisher get the best possible education. I am also a tax payer and have been motivated to keep costs as low as possible and minimize your tax burden. Kingfisher is a great place to live and much of our quality of life is attributed to our excellent school system.

I am eager to serve this community and the public school system that has so strongly influenced me.

I would appreciate your vote on Tuesday, April 6.

Sincerely,

Mike Copeland
