An article in Wednesday’s Times and Free Press on the Newfield Community Park incorrectly stated that Pioneer Telephone Cooperative donated $40,000 to the project.

John Gooden, coordinator of the project, said the $40,000 was part of a grant fund previously awarded for the Pioneer Crossing project located on the east side of Main Street, north of Pioneer’s headquarters, which honors Pioneer Telephone.

The $40,000 will be used to extend the crossing west into the new park and will be utilized as part of the matching requirement for other grants, Gooden said.

The error occurred during the editing process and was not the fault of the article’s author, Addison Themer, who initially reported the information correctly.
