Coughlan discusses wellness plan with Study Club members
The Kingfisher Study Club met Oct. 6 at the First United Methodist Church.
This session’s hostess, Gerri Plummer, served maple donuts and coffee in the fellowship hall, which was decorated with fall items.
President Melda Fischer opened the meeting with an inspirational fall reading. Eight members answered roll call, then welcomed a new member, Evelyn Post, to the club.
Treasurer Donna Lann gave the treasurer’s report and collected annual dues.
The yearbook committee gave an overview of this year’s study, which is recognizing the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote.
The lessons will focus on how one lady can make a difference in her home, community, state and nation, just as the historic, instrumental ladies did as they helped attain the right for women to vote 100 years ago.
Program coordinator for this session was Terri Peck, who introduced the speaker, Blair Coughlan, wellness coordinator of the TSET Healthy Living Program at the Kingfisher and Blaine county health departments.
Coughlan is working on a new grant initiative to produce a comprehensive data-driven plan to reduce tobacco use and tackle barriers to healthy eating and physical activity in Kingfisher County, she said.
Coughlan told the club that the HLP will use county and municipal health data - plus lots of citizen feedback from a Comprehensive Community Needs Assessment - to develop the wellness plan.
“The main focus for the next five years will be focusing efforts within the City of Kingfisher and the Town of Hennessey, which were identified from the County Health Profiles and local data,” Coughlan said during the presentation.
The assessment survey is now open and everyone interested is invited to weigh in. It can be found at: www.surveymonkey.com/r/Kingfisher_CommunitySurvey.
The Kingfisher County Health Department has been a lead agency for TSET-funded community grants for many years, working with organizations to change health behaviors for the better in the county and state.

The club members adjourned with the Women’s Collect.
