County’s Salvation Army makes move with FUMC

By

After close to 40 years of being at the Kingfisher First United Methodist Church, The Salvation Army of Kingfisher County has moved with the congregation to the new location at 1800 S. 13th St.

Jimalou Kamas, service extension coordinator, reminded everyone that all residents of Kingfisher County in need of assistance are encouraged to apply for help.

The office hours are as follows:

• Monday and Tuesday: 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.;

• Wednesday: 9 a.m.-noon

Services being provided in Kingfisher County by The Salvation Army include lodging, fuel (gasoline), financial/emergency assistance, rental assistance, utility assistance, and seasonal assistance (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Back-to-School, etc.).

Other services may be available on a case-by-case basis depending on the individual’s or family’s needs. Individuals are limited as to the amount and frequency of assistance.

The Salvation Army in Kingfisher is supported 100 percent by local donations.

Kamas said without the monetary donations and public support of so many, The Salvation Army would not be able to offer hope and a hand up to those who are less fortunate.

“Many people who need assistance are individuals or families who have never had to ask for help before,” Kamas said. “It only takes one major change in someone’s life, such as loss of job, death of a family member, catastrophic event such as a house fire, major illness or more to cause someone to be in need.”
