County’s total cases up, active cases down
Kingfisher City-County Emergency Manager Steve Loftis reported Monday that the county’s COVID-19 cases continue to rise but not every day.
He told county commissioners at their weekly meeting that the county has registered a total of 79 cases with 19 still active.
Loftis said the county is in the “yellow” zone on the state’s virus activity map, which indicates a low risk of spread.
When Tuesday’s numbers were released, the county showed 88 total cases, but only 17 were still active.
Active cases in area cities and towns include eight for Kingfisher, five for Hennessey and three each for Okarche and Cashion.
(The numbers for individual municipalities add up to more than the county total because Okarche straddles the county line and also includes cases counted in Canadian County.)
Commissioners authorized a solicitation of bids for flooring replacement on the first floor of the county health department in the county courthouse annex.
Commission Chairman Ray Alan Shimanek of Hennessey (District 2) cited sanitation concerns as the reason for the floor replacement. Bids on the project may be submitted until 4 p.m. Aug. 21 at the office of County Clerk Jeannie Boevers and will be opened at the commissioners’ meeting on Aug. 24.
A notice for bids to provide an asphalt overlay on the Omega Road (NS 2700 Road) between EW790 and EW780 roads, a project carried over from last year, also received approval.
Bids on that project also will be received in the county clerk’s office until 4 p.m. Aug. 21 and opened at the Aug. 24 meeting.
A payment of $37,143 to Circuit Engineering District 8 for state-required inspections of 147 bridges in all three commissioner districts received approval as did a legal services contract between Tisdal and O’Hara and the county assessor, Carolyn Mulherin, on an as needed basis.
Requesting and receiving officials for all county departments for the 2021 fiscal year received approval.
McDonald Land Services requested and received road crossing permits for four 12-inch water lines at the following locations in District 3: four miles west of Kingfisher, four miles west and one mile south of Kingfisher, four miles west of Kingfisher and four miles west and one mile south of Kingfisher.
Enlink Midstream received permit approval for two 8.625-inch gas lines in District 3, one located three miles south and two miles west of Kingfisher and one immediately north of Okarche.
Several computer items in County Treasurer Robin Rother’s office were declared surplus.
District 1 and 3 Commissioners Jeff Moss and Heath Dobrovolny, respectively, joined Shimanek in making all actions unanimous.
Also present for the meeting were County Engineer Nik Smith, Boevers as minute clerk, and Les McGee, representing MASA Medical Transport Solutions, who explained terms of a medical transfer program for employees that he said a number of counties have approved.
No action was taken on the program.
