County awards DFD paving contract

By

MMS Construction of Kingfisher won the contract to build a 60 by 70-foot driveway and sidewalks for the Dover Fire Department Monday.

MMS submitted the low bid of $30,450 on the work.

The action came at the weekly meeting of Kingfisher County commissioners. The project will be constructed with funds provided by a county sales tax dedicated to fire departments and administered by county commissioners.

Four other companies submitted bids on the project but one was not announced as it did not contain the legally-required non-collusion affidavit.

Other qualified bidders on the project included Canadian Valley Construction of Guthrie, $45,000; A Tech Paving of Oklahoma City, $79,104.88, and C4L Paving of Edmond, $48,445.

Dover Fire Department volunteers Byron Yeoman and Greg Terrell reviewed the bids to determine they met specifications before recommending acceptance of the MMS bid.

District 2 Commissioner Ray Alan Shimanek made the motion to accept the MMS bid and District 1 Commissioner Jeff Moss made the second and joined Shimanek in voting yes.

District 3 Commissioner Heath Dobrovolny was not present for the meeting.

Commissioners also approved soliciting bids for the purchase of a 6 by 6 all-wheel drive tanker tender for the Big 4 Fire Department and a contract for bridge rehabilitation on Reeding Road about one-half mile south of S.H. 33 along with a notice to proceed on the project, both with unanimous votes of approval. Bids on the project were opened at an earlier meeting.

The board voted to remove Patricia Thompson as requisition officer for the 911 department and add Sheriff Dennis Banther and Undersheriff Barry Reilly to the position and declared a non-working refrigerator at the sheriff’s office at the county jail as surplus so that it can be removed from the property list.

The same action was taken the preceding week but new procedure required the second action, County Clerk Jeannie Boevers said.

They approved a new drug testing policy meeting requirements of a new state law and a letter designating safety sensitive positions including non-CDL heavy equipment operators, under-sheriff, sheriff deputies and 911 operators.

Commissioners approved two 90-day 12-inch water pipeline road crossing permits for Devon Energy Production Co. located six miles south and two miles east of Omega in District 3 and a public access drive for Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co. located 270 feet east of the intersection of county roads 2850 and 660, about four miles north of Dover in District 2.
