County fair starts this week
The Kingfisher County Free Fair – a county tradition since 1902 – begins Wednesday at the fairgrounds in Kingfisher. Wednesday events are the pedal tractor pull and the Farmhand Olympics. Signup for the pedal tractor pull begins at 5:30 p.m. and the competition begins at 6 p.m. Pre-entry for the Farmhand Olympics begins at 6:30 p.m. and the competition begins at 7 p.m. The Pedal tractor pull will be held in front of the MACenter if the weather is fair. If it rains the event will be moved inside. The Farmhand Olympics, featuring 4-H and FFA teams, will be held inside the MA-Center. County OSU Extension Agricultural Agent Bryan Kennedy predicted livestock numbers could be down somewhat for swine, goat and sheep classes this year due to the extreme heat but predicted cattle numbers could be up. “When I was coaching vo-ag I always encouraged my students to take their animals to the shows to accustom them to the different surroundings – different sounds, different people, different smells, just loading in a gooseneck trailer. “This will be the first experience some of these animals will have being away from their comfortable home surroundings; this helps them get ready for their future jobs,” Kennedy said. There is no admission charge for fair events and the public is invited to turn out to view the livestock, crops, arts and crafts produced by county people of all ages. The show schedule follows:
