County hears from paving reps, OKs first road
Kingfisher County commissioners heard a presentation by a representative of Vance Brothers Paving Co., a COVID-19 update for the county by County Emergency Management Director Steve Loftis, approved first deputies in county offices and three road crossing permits at their weekly meeting Tuesday.
Ty McKenzie of Vance Brothers Paving reported the company headquarters had moved to Kansas City, Mo., and said company representatives would be available to ride with commissioners to view any trouble spots.
Vance received the county’s oil and chip contract in 2019.
First deputies approved by office include: District 1, Dennis Holmes; District 2, Clay Vincent; District 3, Anthony Schwartz; Sheriff, Barry Reilly; County Clerk, Emily Lee; Treasurer, Kelly Majetic; Assessor, Bobby Jo Womack, and Court Clerk, Susan Endres.
First deputies carry on the duties of the office holders when they are absent or incapacitated.
Loftis reported 182 active cases of COVID-19 in the county as of Monday morning, including 23 at Cashion, eight at Dover, 58 at Hennessey; 69 at Kingfisher, nine at Loyal, 13 at Okarche and two at Omega.
Loftis said the county has recorded 1,656 cases since March and that the county death toll has risen to 15.
Road crossing permits receiving approval - at least one in each commissioner district - included the following:
• Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co. - one permit in District 2, north of Hennessey, and one in District 3 located five miles north and one mile east of Omega;
• Devon Production Co. - two 12-inch water lines in District 3, one on the east side of Omega and one on the west side on East-West County Road 790.
• K&J Construction-12-inch water line in District 1 located four miles north and four miles east of Okarche.
In other action, commissioners approved paying NODA membership dues in the amount of $3,500, the treasurer’s monthly report for December and added a gooseneck trailer belonging to District 3 to the list of surplus property so that it canbe sold at the CED 8 Auction.
All commissioners were present - District 1, Jeff Moss; District 2, Ray Alan Shimanek, and District 3, Heath Dobrovolny, along with County Clerk Jeannie Boevers as minute clerk and Sheriff Dennis Banther.
The meeting was held on Tuesday due to the courthouse being closed Monday for Martin Luther King Day.
