County looks into possible sick leave sharing policy for employees
Kingfisher County commissioners agreed Monday to look into creating a county-wide time bank for all county employees.
District 2 Commissioner Michael Sparks suggested the plan.
He said it could provide assistance to employees facing difficulty due to injury or sickness.
It would allow individuals to donate vacation or sick leave hours, or money, to an individual facing problems.
The plan would become part of the county’s operations manual with final approval by KCCC.
Commissioners heard requests for two requests for board approval of authorizing applications for financial assistance from the Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) for road resurfacing, one for Wildwood Estates No. 2, east of Kingfisher, and the other for Wittrock RV Park near Okarche.
Chairman Anthony Schwarz reported that three applications had been received to fill the job of director of the Kingfisher County 911 emergency calling service and that the sheriff’s office had been assigned the job on an interim basis. County Engineer Nik Smith reported that the position was being advertised on a statewide job application service, also.
In other action, commissioners approved the following:
• Transfer of a laptop computer from Floodplain to District 2;
• Change order for chip and seal work in District 2, “swapping some miles,” Sparks said.
• Authorization for Okarche RWD to request REAP funds to finance a nitrate blending station.
• Approval of a Kingfisher County SEFA (government funding) report.
Also during the meeting Tiffany Jones of Zyzer requested the commission to enact a change at its Nov. 3 meeting extending the chip and seal contract to June 2026.
Commissioners also approved routine items, including the minutes of the Oct. 20 meeting, agenda for the Oct. 27 meeting, purchase orders, warrants and payroll for Oct. 27.
Commissioners will attend a statewide county commissioner meeting Wednesday and Thursday in Norman and Sparks will also attend a monthly meeting of the Circuit Engineering District No. 8 board of directors Tuesday in Alva.
Present at the meeting in addition to commissioners – Schwarz, District 3, chairman; Jeff Moss, District 1, vice-chairman; and Sparks, District 2 – were County Engineer Smith, Sheriff Aaron Pitts, County Clerk Emily Lee as official minute clerk, Jones and former Sheriff Dennis Banther, representing Wildwood Estates No. 2.
