County OKs FD repair bid

By

Kingfisher County Commissioners approved the bid of Jim’s Welding Service of Hennessey to provide a new short block engine replacement on a truck belonging to the Loyal Fire Department Monday.

Jim’s Welding was one of two companies submitting bids on the project at last week’s meeting, submitting a bid of $16,918.19 for providing a short block only.

A second bidder, Independent Diesel of Enid submitted a bid of $17,689.66.

An add-on of $1,870 for a cylinder head if it needs replacing appeared on the action item agenda for Monday’s meeting. The action approved Monday applied only to the short block.

Commissioners tabled action after opening bids the preceding week to get a district attorney’s opinion on the legality of accepting the higher bid from Independent Diesel, which included the cylinder head and which Independent Diesel said was needed to complete the job satisfactorily.

With the add-on for the cylinder head from Jim’s Welding, the total cost would be $18,788.19, if a replacement head is determined necessary.

Commissioners did not address a plan for providing a new cylinder head, if needed.

In the only other action addressed in the seven-minute meeting, commissioners approved three pipeline crossing permits on county roads in District 3 for Mc-Donald Land Services at the following locations: four miles north and one mile west of Okarche, six miles north and two miles west of Okarche and two miles north of Okarche. All are for temporary three-inch water lines.

District 2 Commissioner Ray Alan Shimanek and District 1 Commissioner Jeff Moss made plans to attend a Circuit Engineering District 8 board meeting in Alva on Tuesday.

District 3 Commissioner Heath Dobrovolny joined Shimanek and Moss in making all actions unanimous.

Also present were County Engineer Nik Smith, Pipeline inspector Cody Murray and County Clerk Jeannie Boevers, who served as minute clerk.
