With 58 total confirmed cases as of Friday, 17 of which were still active, Kingfisher County was bumped up into the moderate risk category for community spread of COVID-19.

The county joined Oklahoma and Tulsa counties and 15 others in the “orange” phase of the Oklahoma State Health Department’s color-coded risk map rolled out July 8.

Other counties adjacent to Kingfisher were designated “yellow,” or low risk, including Canadian, Garfield, Blaine and Logan counties.

Total confirmed cases and those still active in local cities and towns include: Kingfisher – 25 confirmed, eight active; Okarche – 15 confirmed, four active; Hennessey – 14 confirmed, three active; Cashion – eight confirmed, none still active; Dover – three confirmed, two active.

Each color category is based on daily new cases per 100,000 population, updated every Friday.

The moderate risk category indicates 14.39 new cases daily per 100,000 population.

Orange counties move into the high risk category when state resource availability, such as ICU beds and ventilators, fall below certain thresholds.
